Winslow Infrastructure has begun operating on the Blind Creek Solar Farm and Battery project, a significant renewable energy development located 32km north-east of Canberra.
Construction commenced in March and is the third solar farm project that Winslow has undertaken with the client, GRS.
A key element of Winslow's scope is:
- Building 22km of internal access roads (including electrical and water crossings)
- Construction of laydown, substation, and switchyard platforms
- Clearing, grubbing, and fence removal; demolition and decommissioning of existing structures, borewells, and windmill
- Earthworks on dams and tracker areas
In addition to road construction, current earthworks operations at the Switch Station, Substation, and Laydown areas involve the import and placement of approximately 3000 tonnes of fill material to construct the required benches.
Material relocation is a significant task because of the predominantly sandy site conditions. Excavated material is generally unsuitable for roads and platforms, requiring subgrade cement stabilisation and imported fill in selected areas.
The project is currently operating at its peak with more than 105 truck movements per day and more than 40 operators and plant active on site.
